I’m sure you’ve seen it by now, the Derek Jeter commercial with Frank Sinatra's "I did it my way", and every time I see it, and it makes me realize that I've made a terrible mistake over his career.

I’ve disliked Jeter for years (I’ve always respected his play though) for all the wrong reasons. It started out for me hating the Yankees, and Jeter, for beating the Atlanta Braves in the 1996 World Series (YES, you read that right - the Yankees had no business winning that series especially when the Braves went up 2-0 by crushing the Yanks). And since Jeter's the Captain/face of the Yankees, he got the brunt of my disdain.

Maybe one day I'll explain why I still like the Braves, even after 1991 and 1992.

However, I wish I would've paid attention to Jeter more as a player, instead of hating him, and the Yankees, for essentially playing within the rules (no limit spending), when really it's Major League Baseball's lack of a salary cap that's been the problem this entire time. Ok, maybe hate is too strong of word because I don’t really hate anyone, but you get my point.

If you like a sport, and its something you really enjoy, why hate the superstars, those not on your team, that make your sport fun to watch? With the exception of anyone on the Philadelphia Flyers that is. Although I will admit, and as much as it pains me to do so, I couldn’t get mad every time Mark Recchi scored as a Flyer. I just couldn’t.

I know I'll get backlash for this, but I feel the same way about Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. Brady has had a hall of fame career, period. I know he's not a Steeler, I get that, but you're getting to watch greatness. And yes, he’s had success against the Steelers, but lets be honest, spygate or not, who hasn’t Brady had success against?

I hear the arguments, “but he hasn’t won a championship since spygate!” Yeah, so? Brady still has to go out there and make plays, doesn’t he?

Anyway, there's a ton of players I wish I would have been able to see live. Players like Roberto Clemente, Honus Wagner, Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Lou Gehrig, Josh Gibson, Gordie Howe, and the list goes on. So when you get to see guys like Brady, Jeter, Lebron James, Andrew McCutchen, and Sidney Crosby, soak it up.

You watch their games on TV, you pay the outrageous ticket prices, you participate in fantasy sports leagues, all just to be entertained, so just sit back and enjoy it. Remember, it's all just entertainment, right?
